Director Gaurav Narayanan who began his career with 2 back to back hits Thoonganagaram and Sigaram Thodu had a slight hiccup with his third film Ippadai Vellum starring Udhayanidhi Stalin which didn’t fare well at the box office. It’s been three years since the release of Ippadai Vellum and he hasn’t announced his next project yet. During an exclusive live interaction with Gaurav, the director told us that he has been working on a script for three years and would direct the film only if either Vijay or Ajith agrees to act in the film. This is what the director had to say:
“I have been working on a script for three to three and a half years. Generally, when I write a script, I don’t think of a star, only when it finds its shape completely, I will decide on who to play the lead character of the film. That’s how it has always been for me, so when I finished this script, the two names that came to my mind was Thala and Thalapathy. Only if either of them agrees to act in the film, I will proceed with this script or else I will put this project on hold till they agree to act in it. Because it is such a powerful script based on a live incident happened in Madurai. And it is a subject that no other filmmakers in Tamil Nadu has addressed in their films till now. So, when you take a script as such, you need to find actors who suits the film or else it is better to skip.
