According to reports, 4 people were arrested by Kerala Police for blackmailing and threatening actress Shamna Kasim, more popularly known as Poorna. It is said that the four accused people approached Shamna’s house with a marriage proposal, showing her the photograph of a TikTok model from Kasaragod as the groom. However, after a few days Shamna and her parents grew suspicious when the four people visited her house and started taking photos and videos of the house. Later, the gang demanded a ransom and threatened to release some of Shamna’s old video clips.

Things went out of control and that is when Shamna decided to file a police complaint against the fraudulent people. Talking to a Malayalam news channel about this, actress Shamna Kasim was quoted as saying, “No one else should fall in such a trap, that is why I told my parents to file a complaint. They seem to be a part of an extortion gang”. After the investigation, it has been found that these 4 people are a part of an extortion gang who have indulged in similar incidents in the past.

The arrested four people are identified as Rafeeq Mohammed (30), Ramesh Krishnan (35), Sarath Sivadasan (25), and Asharaf Saidu Mohammed (52). It is added that two more people, who are part of the gang, are involved in this crime and the Police officials are currently in search of them. “One of them has criminal antecedents while the background of the others is being probed. A probe is underway”, said a Police officer from Maradu. The police have reportedly booked the arrested persons under IPC sections 451 (House-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 511 (420) (cheating or dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion), 120 B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 506 (i) (criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

For the unversed, Shamna Kasim aka Poorna made her debut in Tamil cinema with Bharath’s Muniyandi Vilangial Moondramandu, after which she acted in films like Kandhakottai, Thagararu, Kodiveeran, Savarakathi, Adangamaru, etc. She was last seen playing a supporting role as Samuthirakani’s wife in Suriya’s Kaappaan, directed by K.V.Anand.
