Leading Tamil actor Dhanush's Vaathi is set to open in cinemas worldwide on February 17 and the buzz for the film is getting bigger as we near its theatrical release later this week. The upcoming film directed by hit Telugu filmmaker Venky Atluri of Tholi Prema and Rang De fame has been produced by Naga Vamsi's Sithara Entertainments banner in association with Sai Soujanya's Fortune Four Cinemas, and will be released in Tamil Nadu by Lalit Kumar's 7 Screen Studio. With expectations already high for Vaathi, a special press show was held on Monday, which saw several notable names from the Telugu entertainment fraternity watching the film.

Dhanush's Vaathi is a bilingual and is coming out in Telugu under the title Sir. With the Telugu premiere show being screened, editor Navin Nooli, who has edited the Dhanush-starrer, took to social media and revealed that it is high on emotions and will hold the attention of audiences, while also congratulating everyone associated with the film. He tweeted, "#Vaathi #Sir A very emotional and gripping film. Advanced congratulations to @Dhanushkraja #VenkyAtluri @vamsi84 and @SitharaEnts". It is to be noted that Dhanush's Thiruchitrambalam released last year too was an emotionally-packaged film, which struck a chord with the audiences, and fans now expect similar success with Vaathi next.

Vaathi is set in the 1990s and revolves around the subject of education as was shown in the film's trailer released recently. The film has the two-time National Award-winning actor Dhanush paired with Malayalam youth sensation Samyuktha, with the supporting cast featuring the likes of Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Samuthirakani, Thotapalli Madhu, Narra Srinivas, Pammi Sai, Hyper Aadhi, Shara, Aadukalam Naren, Ilavarasu, Motta Rajendran, Hareesh Peradi, and Praveena. Vaathi also sees the highly-successful Dhanush-G. V. Prakash Kumar combo coming back together after their previous collaborations Polladhavan, Aadukalam, Mayakkam Enna, Asuran, and Maaran.
