English singer Marcus Birks died last Friday in hospital due to COVID-19 after he initially expressed his reluctance in getting his vaccination jab. He was 40. Hailing from Staffordshire, England, Marcus, a rapper and musician, has been described to be a "selfless, proud man" by his family on Instagram. The singer had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after testing positive for the disease, including showing flu-like symptoms and developing blood clots. Sharing the news of Marcus' demise, his wife penned an emotional note, while also sharing a few photos of themselves.
Her statement read as follows: "The pain I feel writing this is unbearable, my heart has been ripped out, my soul and world completely and utterly shattered. My husband, my best-friend, my soulmate, Marcus passed away yesterday morning, We have been together for over half of my life, since I was 16 years old and married for 10 years, and I have completely loved him and worshipped him for the entire 17 years. I made him a promise that I will tell our baby boy everyday how much he loves him, how special he is and how he would have been/is the best dad a son could ever wish for. My heart has been completely ripped out and I don’t know how your supposed to deal with such pain and hurt but knowing I am growing a part of him inside me is helping me through this heart wrenching time."
She continued, "I would like to thank you all for your kind words and support over these last few weeks, Marcus was truly blown away by how many of you sent your love to him. Please know that I have received your messages and I have read them, but I just can’t bring myself to reply but your words of comfort mean a lot to me. He was the most incredible, characteristic, caring, loving, loyal, selfless, proud man and all he wanted to do was to help as many people as he could, that in itself showed what a pure heart and soul he had. Marcus I want to thank you for making me feel utterly loved, I knew how much you adored me, as I do you, you told me everyday how much I meant to you and that I will never forget. Me and you forever that’s what you would always tell me..ð¤ I’m not saying goodbye because we will see eachother again. We will be together again I promise you. I will always be your Madhead, love your wife, best friend and soulmate, Lis ð"

Last month, Marcus Birks during an interview to BBC expressed his regret at "putting off" his coronavirus jabs and appealed to everyone to get vaccinated. He said, "If you haven't been ill, you don't think you're going to get ill, so you listen to the (anti-vaccine) stuff. When you feel like you can't get enough breath, it's the scariest feeling in the world." He added, "First thing I am going tell all my family to do is get the vaccine and anybody I see."
