Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and members of his cabinet have been placed under home quarantine after they attended a meeting on May 29 where Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, state minister Madan Kaushik told news agency ANI. Maharaj, who tested positive for the COVID-19 infection, has been shifted along with five of his family members to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh.
The hospital's public relations office also issued a statement saying Satpal Maharaj's wife Amrita Rawat had already been admitted on Sunday morning. A confirmation of the minister's wife contracting COVID-19 was given based on a swab sample report on Saturday evening. Furthermore, samples of 41 people, who were living in Maharaj's house, have also been collected and sent for testing. Uttarakhand on Sunday reported 53 new cases taking the total number of infections in the state to 802.
