Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr. C. Vijayabaskar addressed the media on Thursday and provided details on the state's response to the novel coronavirus as well as inform people regarding the health efforts being undertaken. He said 827 people have been identified to have contracted the COVID-19 infection on May 28 with the state's total at present standing at 19,372. Chennai district has recorded 559 new cases in the last 24 hours taking the total to date to 12,762 cases. The day also saw a substantial rise in the number of deaths as 12 people succumbed to the fatal disease taking Tamil Nadu's toll to 145. As for the number of recoveries, 639 people were discharged from hospitals across the state with the Health Minister saying 10,548 people have been sent home post their treatment.

TN Health Minister Vijayabaskar further revealed that plasma therapy treatment has been carried out on seven patients and that they're making a steady recovery at the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Chennai, which he went on to declare is a positive sign. He also requested people not to panic by looking at the rise in the number of coronavirus cases while telling them to come forward at any point of time in case they have a regular cold, fever or are experiencing cough for which testing will be done immediately.
