The number of people testing positive for the coronavirus around the world has only been increasing with the passage of each day. As the global count for positive cases has topped two million with over 1 lakh declared dead and 5 lakh people having recovered from the dreaded disease, the numbers in India too have seen a significant rise over the past few days. So far, 12,380 positive cases for the COVID-19 virus have been recorded in India while 414 people succumbed to the fatal disease and 1,489 managed to recover, get discharged or migrated with appropriate treatment.
Among the cases in India, Chennai in Tamil Nadu has been declared to be the number one hotspot as the total number of people affected by the coronavirus disease in the city stands at 214 as on Thursday (16.04.2020) at 10AM. In a zone wise breakup of COVID-19 positive cases in Chennai, the Chennai Corporation has now released a list showing the areas in the city affected by the virus.
Among the 15 zones, Ambattur and Manali have recorded zero positive cases to date with Royapuram showing the most number of affected numbering at 64 people. As for the other 12 zones, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar has recorded 30 positive cases followed by Kodambakkam with 24, Anna Nagar with 22, Tondiarpet with 19, Teynampet with 16, Adyar and Perungudi with 7 each, Valasaravakkam with 5, Thiruvottriyur with 4, Alandur and Madhavaram with 3 and Sholinganallur with 2 while a total of 4 other cases cross notified to other districts.

Tamil Nadu's total stands at 1,242 people confirmed to have been affected by the coronavirus disease's symptoms while the death toll has risen to 14 and the recovered, discharged or migrated stands at 118. The state saw 38 fresh cases being recorded on Wednesday for the second consecutive day after Tuesday and are the lowest numbers for people affected by the disease considering the previous low was on April 8 when 48 people tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
