Kamal Haasan watched Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: I at a special screening along with the film’s lead actors Karthi and Vikram on Wednesday (October 5). Upon viewing, he was amazed by the film. During the post-screening press interaction that was held, the Universal Hero said that he would like to watch the second part of the epic period action drama immediately and not wait until it releases next year.
His high praises for the movie really stuck with one the actors and it was none other than actor Vikram himself. Ecstatic about hearing such remarks from one of the most prominent personalities of Tamil cinema, he went completely gaga over this fanboy moment. Unable to contain the excitement, Chiyaan took to his official Twitter handle to share his feelings with his fans and followers.

Ponniyin Selvan: I is the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast consisting of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, R. Parthiban and Lal. The music was composed by A. R. Rahman, with cinematography by Ravi Varman, editing by A. Sreekar Prasad, and production design by Thota Tharani.
The film hit theatres worldwide on September 30 and garnered rave reviews from film critics, who praised the direction, performances of the cast, score, visuals, and faithfulness to the novel. The second installment of the film is all set to hit the screens sometime next year in 2023.
