The 2007 Tamil action film, Polladhavan, marked the beginning of the Vetri Maaran-Dhanush partnership after which the two had collaborated for Aadukalam, Vada Chennai and most recently, Asuran. Among their films, Polladhavan was remade in Kannada as Punda, in Telugu as Kurradu, as Pravegeya in Sinhala and also in Bengali under the title, Borbaad, but failed to emulate the success of the original Tamil version.
Having said that, a Hindi remake of Polladhavan titled, Guns of Banaras, is all set for its theatrical release on February 28 featuring Karann Nathh and Nathalia Kaur in the roles portrayed by Dhanush and Divya Spandana while Abhimanyu Singh and Ganesh Venkatraman will be seen essaying the characters of Kishore and Daniel Balaji from the Tamil version.
Directed by Shekkhar Suri and produced by Ashok Munshi, Shaina Nath and Rakesh Nath under the Dashaka Cinema Company banner, Guns of Banaras includes a notable supporting cast among whom include Shilpa Shirodkar Ranjit, Zarina Wahab, Dr Mohan Agashe among others with KK Rao handling the cinematography and Bunty Negi taking care of the editing.
The music in Guns of Banaras has been composed by Sohail Sen with the makers now releasing the 'Band Bajega' video song, which has vocals by Shahid Mallaya, lyrics penned by Sameer Anjaan and is based on the chart-buster 'Padichu Pathen' track in Polladhavan.
