Malayankunju has been hitting headlines for a while now and for good reason. Its amazing trailer and great songs have managed to make an impact on the audience. Speaking of songs, the music has been composed by world-renowned music director A. R. Rahman who has come back to the Malayalam film industry after nearly a 30-year-long hiatus.
Rahman gave an interview recently in which the 'Isai Puyal' reveals how he came on board for Fahadh Faasil starrer Malayankunju. He said, "I was working for the Expo 2020 in Dubai and one day I had an e-mail from Fahadh Faasil and said, 'I want to show you a movie, sir'. I was surprised and said, 'I am in Dubai. Can you come here?'. So he came in. Writer and cameraman Mahesh showed me the movie and of course, he (Fahadh) is a very natural actor and I did not have any bit of time to do this movie but I said, 'Why don't we do the next movie? I like this movie a lot'. But when I went to my music room, I started composing themes. So it came to the movie where I have never seen a character like this. I have never worked on a movie with a character like this who is a radio mechanic, which I could have become if my mom did not pull me out of the music. So I could relate to that character and what goes through his brain because he is into electronics and he is in this village - such a paradox".
He added, "So I spoke to Fahadh and said, 'Why don't we make this a little bit granulated but there will be a lot of organic instruments in it'. So I sent him a couple of themes and then the trailer happened. The trailer was received well so we found a sound for the movie and then I started scoring. I am glad I did that and I hope you like the music. I am coming to Malayalam film industry after probably 28 years and I hope to do more movies here".
Other than this, his other films for the year are Cobra, Ponniyin Selvan: I, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu and Pathu Thala.
