S. S. Rajamouli's magnum opus has been making headlines ever since its release on 24 March 2022 and it is all for good reasons. It was the second highest-grossing film of 2022 after Prashanth Neel's KGF: Chapter 2 starring Rocking Star Yash. But RRR managed to break various existing box office records and made its own records along the way. The pan-Indian film was lauded not only by the Indian film fraternity but also caught the attention of various Hollywood personalities.
It was appreciated by various Hollywood directors, writers, producers, and actors. The film even became the first Indian film to make it to the top 5 movies on Netflix in the United States of America. From the reception that it has gotten from all around the world, it looks like the international film fraternity likes RRR way more than the movies that are being churned out by Marvel studios.
In a recent interview between National Award winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan and Anurag Kashyap for our platform Galatta Plus, the director made his stance very clear on how he feels RRR should be submitted from India for the upcoming 95th Academy Awards in 2023. "India might actually have a nomination in the final 5 if RRR is the film they pick. I am speaking from what people have been reaching out to me and talking about in the West. They have discovered a new filmmaker called Rajamouli with RRR. How Everything Everywhere All At Once worked for me, RRR has worked for them. And they find it better than any other Marvel movie. Even the silliness of it and they’re so blown by the action sequences”, he told Galatta Plus.
RRR is a period drama starring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan in lead roles. The fictional tale celebrates the friendship and tales of valor between NTR's Komaram Bheem and Ram Charan's Alluri Sitharamaraju. The film stars Alia Bhatt as the leading lady and marks her Tollywood debut. The cast also features Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, and Olivia Morris, among others. It also stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in special cameo roles, marking their debut in the Telugu film industry at the same time. RRR was SS Rajamouli's first release after Baahubali 2 which was released way back in 2017.
