Cambodia's health ministry on Saturday issued a statement saying the last patient with the novel coronavirus has made a recovery and left the hospital. The Southeast Asian country now has zero positive coronavirus cases while the government urged its citizens to continue following the protocols that have been advised and are in effect already. The Ministry of Health in their statement further stated that there is no easing on the restrictions in the country as schools remain closed as border entry checks will still be conducted.
The last patient to be discharged on Saturday, a 36-year-old woman from Cambodia's northwestern province of Banteay Meanchey was released from the Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital in the capital, Phnom Penh, and was presented to the media in a livestream, who went on to express her gratitude to the health authorities and medical professionals, who had attended to her and taken care of her during the entire treatment period. Up until now, 122 people were reported to have been infected with the novel coronavirus in Cambodia with no deaths since the disease first had its origin in China's Wuhan city, which has since January left more than 4.5 million affected and killed over 300,000 around the world.
Cambodia had last reported a coronavirus case on April 12 with a total of 14,684 tests taken to date since January. Health Minister Mam Bunheng was cautious in his words and urged the people to continue to remain vigil and advised them to not gather in large groups. Speaking to reporters, he said, "We think that most of the cases, generally, are imported, so we must be careful with all checkpoints at the border, at airports, at ports, at land checkpoints,". He also added saying, "People who travel from abroad must have a certificate confirming that they don't have COVID-19. Only then would we allow them in, and once they are in, they will be quarantined for another 14 days,".
