Due to the unexpected closure of theatres, owing to the global pandemic situation, certain filmmakers and producers have been put in a situation to release their films directly on OTT platforms to save money and earn profits. Jyotika’s Ponmagal Vandhal, Keerthy Suresh’s Penguin, Amitabh Bachchan - Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo, were some of the recent biggies that were released directly on OTT platforms. Late Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film, Dil Bechara, remake of acclaimed Hollywood film, The Fault In Our Stars, is scheduled to release directly on OTT platform on July 24. This intense romantic drama will stream on Disney + Hotstar platform and it is surely going to garner a lot of attention on social media since it happens to be Sushant’s last film.
Having said that, Disney + Hotstar has now come up with a breaking announcement about the direct OTT release of 7 big league films in Hindi. The list includes Akshay Kumar's Laxmmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn's Bhuj: The Pride of India, Alia Bhatt's Sadak 2, Abhishek Bachchan's Big Bull, Sushant Singh Rajput's Dil Bechara, Vidyut Jammwal's Khuda Haafiz, and Kunal Khemu's Lootcase. This news has taken the fans by total surprise and it is indeed one of the biggest moves in Indian cinema’s history. Talking about this, Mr. Uday Shankar from Disney + Hotstar said, “We decided to cheer up people and make an alternative good way for the industry during this pandemic situation. These films will directly go for Disney + Hotstar OTT release and the fans can sit and watch FDFS at their own comfortable space and time. We are starting immediately with Dil Bechara as a tribute to late Sushant Singh Rajput and anyone can watch that film.. After that, between July and October, we have lined up the releases of other films.”
Among these films, Laxmmi Bomb happens to be the most expected biggie of this year and interestingly, it marks Raghava Lawrence’s debut in Hindi cinema. This horror comedy will feature Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, while Tusshar Kapoor, Tarun Arora, Muskaan Khubchandani form the supporting cast. The film has cinematography by Vedalam and Viswasam fame Vetri, while the editing is done by Akiv Ali. Laxmmi Bomb happens to be the remake of Lawrence's Kanchana 2 and we will see Akshay Kumar in a completely different makeover.
The film is produced by Cape Of Good Films, in association with Tushar Entertainment House and Fox Star Studios. The release date of Laxmmi Bomb is yet to be announced and we can expect the official announcement regarding it in the coming days.
