Veteran Tamil actor-filmmaker G. Marimuthu died due to a heart attack on Friday, September 8, in Chennai. He was 57. Marimuthu had been dubbing for a Tamil television serial when he began experiencing uneasiness after which he was rushed to a hospital in Vadapalani. His body was kept at the hospital before being taken to his residence in Virugambakkam. Marimuthu garnered popularity for his role as the villain Aadhi Gunasekaran on the hit Sun TV Tamil serial Ethir Neechal, while also making appearances in several notable films like Yuddham Sei (2011), Komban (2015), Trisha Illana Nayanthara (2015), Kodi (2016), Kadaikutty Singam (2018), Pariyerum Perumal (2018), Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu (2019), Doctor (2021), Atrangi Re (2021; Hindi), Vikram (2022), and more recently in 'Superstar' Rajinikanth's Jailer.
The news of the popular actor's demise has come as a big shock to the film fraternity and the fans, who have been paying tributes on social media. Several leading Tamil cinema stars have expressed their condolences starting with iconic actress Radikaa Sarathkumar, who posted a picture of the late actor on X and wrote, "So sad and shocked to hear of his passing of #marimuthu have worked with him a man with talent , gone so soon. Condolences to his familyðð" (sic)
Actor-politician Vijayakanth also posted his condolences on X saying "I was shocked and saddened to hear the news that famous actor and director Marimuthu passed away due to a heart attack. His sudden demise has shocked the screen world and fans. His loss is a loss to the film industry. I express my deepest condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family, relatives and fans of actor Marimuthu." (sic)
Director Nelson Dilipkumar, who cast Marimuthu in an important role in Jailer, also paid his tribute and wrote, "Saddened!! Rest in peace #Marimuthu sir ! Remembering the times with you…" (sic)
Producer SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures posted, "Shocking to hear the sudden demise of #Marimuthu sir! My deepest condolences to the friends and family!! #ripmarimuthu" (sic)
A heartbroken actor Prasanna recollected the times he worked with Marimuthu and shared fond memories of the late artiste saying, "Deeply shattered to know the passing away of director G Marimuthu. We did #KannumKannum and #Pulivaal together. We had a brothers like bond. We agreed to disagree on many. His life wasn't easy at all. As an actor finally he was doing very well. He shud've been there for a while longer. Sad. Rip. Poittuvaappuð" (sic)
Actor Arun Vijay remembered Marimuthu in his memoir on X stating, "Shocking to hear the demise of #Marimuthu sir.. Nice actor & a person gone too soon.. My heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace..ðð½" (sic)
Actor Shanthnu Bhagyaraj stated that the news of Marimuthu's death was a big blow and revealed that he was fond of his recent work. He wrote, "Shocking to hear about this ð Oflate been following a lot of his work RIP sir ðð» #RIPMarimuthu sir Condolences to his family" (sic)
Actors Vijay Sethupathi, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Rohini Molleti too paid their condolences on X along with pictures of the late Tamil TV and cinema artiste.
Poet and Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu penned a detailed heartfelt statement in memory of Marimuthu sharing how he oversaw his marriage proceedings while adding that the news of his death has left him in a state of grief and deep sorrow.
Bigg Boss fame Sanam Shetty shared that she was fortunate to have collaborated with Marimuthu on a web series in her condolence message. She wrote, "Hard to believe this sudden news! Unique actor..full of life and warm personality. I had the privilege of working with Marimuthu sir in my web series. Gone too soon. Deepest condolences to family and fans.
