Popular South Indian actor Abhirami surprised everyone on Sunday by announcing that she and her husband Rahul Pavanan adopted a baby girl in 2022. Sharing the big news on the special occasion of International Mother's Day today on social media, the actress revealed the baby's name to be Kalki, while stating that it has been a life-altering experience ever since the adoption. Abhirami announced on Instagram while also posing for photos with her husband and baby daughter, and wrote, "Dear friends, Rahul and I are thrilled to announce that we are now parents to a baby girl, Kalki! We adopted our daughter last year and it has been life-changing in every way. Today I am blessed to celebrate Mother's Day as a new mother myself! My family and I request your blessings as we play our newest role!"
Abhirami also extended her wishes to all the mothers on the special occasion and said, "Wish you all a wonderful mother's day!! #mothersday #newmom". Congratulatory messages have been pouring in for the actress from her friends and well-wishes in the film fraternity, including fans, who have flooded the comments section of her post with their hearty wishes. Malayalam actor Shweta Menon of Snegithiye and Naan Avanillai 2 fame wrote, "Wowððð happy mammaaâ¤ï¸â¤ï¸ðð.. happy mamma's day to you always darling ðð", while Divya Unni commented, "â¤ï¸ð¤ happy Mother’s Day dear". Known best for her powerful performance in 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan's 2004 blockbuster, Virumaandi, Abhirami made her Tamil cinema debut in the 'Action King' Arjun-starrer Vaanavil in 2001, while appearing in films Middle Class Madhavan, Dosth, Samudhiram, and Charlie Chaplin in the same year making her a household name across Tamil Nadu. She announced her retirement from acting in 2004 after Virumaandi and married Rahul Pavanan, a healthcare consultant, in 2009. Abhirami made her comeback to acting in 2014 in the Malayalam film, Apothecary, while also making a special appearance in Jyotika's 36 Vayadhinile in 2015. She has since been seen in Tamil films Maara starring Madhavan and in a cameo in Karthi's Sulthan. Abhirami will be next seen in Malayalam in the Suresh Gopi-starrer Garudan.
