Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman shared a big secret about the Ponniyin Selvan: 1 original soundtrack (OST) while addressing a fan who was all praise for his work on the 'Saaya Sanjaley' track. The hit composer announced on Saturday, August 19, on X that the Ponniyin Selvan: 2 OST will be released soon while asking fans to name their favorite track in the first film along with the reason. One avid fan was all praise for A. R. Rahman for his work on the 'Saaya Sanjaley' song sung by Nakul Abhyankar in the PS: 1 OST, with the celebrated composer going on to reveal for the first time that the song was initially planned to be included in the Hindi film, Heropanti 2 (2022).
Extending his gratitude to the fan and the Almighty, A. R. Rahman informed that the 'Saaya Sanjale' track in Ponniyin Selvan: 1 was initially composed for Tiger Shroff's Heropanti 2. He stated that he first conceived the song along with lyricist Mehbood for the Bollywood film's interval scene, but had decided to retain it later as it sounded classical, which director Mani Ratnam later used in his PS: 1. A. R. Rahman posted, "Thank you EPI …Saaya Sanjaley was a track developed for #Heropanti 2 interval situation along with lyricist Mehboob …we held it back thinking it would be too classical for that film…and Mani sir took and fit it in so beautifully! (sic)"
The 'Saaya Sanjaley' track served as an additional highlight to the scene featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Trisha's characters in Ponniyin Selvan: 1. In the film, we see both their characters, Nandini and Kundavai, meet for the first time, with the song playing perfectly in the background and hinting at their rivalry. The PS: 1 OST was released sometime back and fans will now no doubt be waiting for A. R. Rahman to drop the complete background score of the sequel in the days ahead.
