Popular Japanese comedian Ken Shimura dies of Coronavirus, he was 70 years old and was diagnosed with pneumonia after contracting with coronavirus. He has been kept in a hospital for the past 10 days since March 20th after developing fever and breathing troubles. He was kept under ventilator support for the past few days. Ken Shimura becomes the first Japanese celebrity to die of COVID-19. Shimura, who attracted fans of all generations with his slapstick comedy and funny faces, had been treated at a Tokyo hospital and died on Sunday, March 29.
Ken Shimura co-starred with Masashi Tashiro, Nobuyoshi Kuwano in the Japanese variety show Shimura Ken no Bakatono-sama. He was known as Japan's Robin Williams. Shimura was most famous for starring in Hachiji Da Yo! Zei'in Shugo! with the comedy group The Drifters and Fun TV with Kato-chan and Ken-chan with Cha Kato, another former member of The Drifters. It is said that Ken Shimura drew inspiration from the American comedic icon Jerry Lewis before creating niche for himself.
