In a career spanning over 27 years, Thala Ajith has acted in only one Hindi film, Asoka which was directed by ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan. The film featured Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Ajith in the lead roles while the supporting cast included Hrishita Bhatt, Danny Denzongpa, Rahul Dev, Gerson Da Cunha, Subhashini Ali, Umesh Mehra, Johnny Level, Suresh Menon, Shilpa Mehta in supporting roles. Ajith was seen playing the role of Prince Susima Maurya and his performance earned good reviews. Ajith's makeover as a prince was something very interesting and different and it still happens to be a film that brought out the performer inside Ajith.
Produced by Gauri Khan and Juhi Chawla, Asoka had cinematography by Santosh Sivan and editing by Sreekar Prasad. Wonder why we're talking about Asoka now? Well, there is a reason. Red Chillies Entertainment (Shah Rukh Khan's company) who produced Asoka recently shared a small video compiling shots featuring Ajith as the prince. This small throwback video has gone viral among the fans and it has come as a pleasant nostalgia for a lot of them. Post Asoka, Ajith never acted in a historical film and the fans are eagerly waiting to see him in one such avatar for a long time. Let us keep our fingers crossed and hope to see Ajith as a King or a Prince in a historical film in the future.
Up next, Ajith’s next release happens to be Valimai which is directed by H Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor’s Bayview Projects LLP. The Viswasam star will be seen donning the khaki uniform for this action adventure drama that has music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Kaala fame Huma Qureshi, Yogi Babu, 100 fame Raj Ayyappa are also part of the star cast. The film has cinematography by Nirav Shah. The shooting of Valimai is currently stalled due to the pandemic and one does not know when exactly the next schedule will commence.
Considering the fact that Valimai is a big league film planned to be made on a grand scale, the makers will have to wait for the pandemic wave to subside as the project demands work from a lot of people. It is said that Valimai will have a lot of high octane action sequences and bike chase sequences and it is surely going to be a visual treat for the fans. Depending on the commencement of the shoot, the new release date for the film will be fixed by the makers. For now, check out the throwback video of Ajith’s Asoka here:
