Addressing the media, Rhea Chakraborty's lawyer Satish Maneshinde said, "We are delighted by the order. Truth and Justice have prevailed and ultimately the submissions on facts and law have been accepted by Justice Sarang V Kotwal." Mr Maneshinde further added, "The arrest and custody of Rhea was totally unwarranted and beyond the reach of law. The hounding and witch-hunt by three central agencies, the CBI, Enforcement Directorate and the Narcotics Control Bureau should come to an end. We remain committed to truth. Satyameva Jayate."

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had arrested Rhea Chakraborty on September 8 on charges of making arrangements for drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14. Rhea, who was in a relationship till the time of Sushant's death, has been accused of financing drugs used by the actor, while also being alleged to be a part of a member of a drugs syndicate.

In her bail petition, Rhea Chakraborty stated that she and her brother were being targeted by a number of agencies who had no evidence in regard to her involvement in the case. She also alleged that Sushant Singh Rajput "took advantage of those closest to him to sustain his drug habit" and that she made attempts to get him out of it. She added that the late actor was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and that his family had abandoned him when his depression spiralled. She claimed Sushant's mental health had "deteriorated during the lockdown", while adding that the deaths of actors Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor left a big impact on him.

Rhea's bail plea also stated that Sushant Singh Rajput was "extremely happy after being offered ₹ 14 crore for a movie" and alleged that he was not pleased upon a rift with his family members, especially his father. The actress put up an argument and said that the charges levelled against her were too severe compared to the quantity of the drugs involved. Accusing the drugs probe agency, Rhea said they had floated a false narrative that she had involvement in illegal drugs trafficking and "harboured offenders".

Currently, the CBI is investigating Sushant Singh Rajput's death case, while the Enforcement Directorate has been conducting a probe into the financial allegations that were raised by the late actor's father. The NCB entered the scene of the investigation after WhatsApp chats retrieved from Rhea Chakraborty's phone revealed alleged conversations regarding the procurement of drugs after which several notable actors were questioned by the anti-drugs agency.
