Ahead of the 2024 Indian general election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a roadshow at Thyagaraya Nagar in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday, April 9. Accompanied by the Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai by his side and the party's candidates from South Chennai, Central Chennai, and North Chennai, PM Modi was seen standing atop a decorated car and holding a lotus, while waving it to the large crowd gathered to welcome him. Among the candidates who have been fielded, Tamilisai Soundararajan will be contesting in South Chennai, while Vinoj P Selvam and RC Paul Kanagaraj are representing the BJP from Central Chennai and North Chennai, respectively.
The scenes at T. Nagar showed the people trying to catch a glimpse of PM Modi, who was dressed in a white shirt and the traditional veshti and an angavastram, with the BJP flags adorning both sides of the road ahead of the April 19 Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu. The roadshow held over a distance of 2 kms from Panagal Park to Teynampet took about 45 minutes, with followers carrying placards raising the "Bharat Mata ki jai" and "Modi, Modi" slogans, and showing their support for the BJP. Many enthusiastic supporters also showered flower petals on the Prime Minister to greet him, with many cultural events and a nadaswaram performance also being staged.
Sharing a video of the roadshow on X (formerly Twitter), Annamalai extended his gratitude to PM Modi and expressed his hope for a political change in Tamil Nadu. He wrote, "We thank our Hon PM Thiru @narendramodi avl for the electrifying roadshow in Chennai today, raising the spirits of the people of Chennai. We also thank the people of Chennai for the rousing reception given to our beloved PM, welcoming him with warmth. The exhilarating roadshow exemplifies the bond of love shared between our Hon PM and the people of TN, who are all set for the much-awaited political change in TN." He added, "Chennai South winning Candidate Smt @DrTamilisai4BJP , Chennai Central winning candidate Thiru @VinojBJP & Chennai North winning candidate Thiru @RCPK_Official participated in today’s roadshow alongside our Hon PM."

PM Narendra Modi will be addressing election rallies in Vellore on Wednesday, April 10, endorsing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates among whom include BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai, Union Minister L. Murugan, and Pattali Makkal Katchi's (PMK) Soumya Anbumani. A total of 39 Lok Sabha seats will be contested in the elections in Tamil Nadu on April 19 besides Puducherry and the BJP being spearheaded by party president K. Annamalai is hopeful of a good showing in the state.
